‘Bihar to Tihar’ – A true life story by Kanhaiya Kumar

After the JNU issue that took India by storm, Kanhaiya Kumar is ready with another spectacle. In case you have been living under a rock and are unaware of who he is – Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested and charged with sedition by the Delhi police for allegedly raising anti-India slogans in a student rally at Jawaharlal Nehru University in February earlier this year.

Post all the ruckus, Kanhaiya Kumar has decided to pen down his story. It will depict this remarkable transition from his village in Bihar, through the ordeals he faced and his time in jail. The main focus of his book will be his deep and unabashed involvement in politics and his highly controversial sedition charges, followed by his arrest.

The activist has been in the limelight since the unfortunate, “anti-national” incident in JNU got highlighted by the media. Since he was dismissed from jail on 3rd March 2016, Kanhaiya has been touring university campuses in the country.

Kanhaiya was quoted saying, “Bhagat Singh had said it is easy to kill individuals, but you cannot kill ideas. I do not know where this fight of ours will take us, but I thought our ideas should be permanently etched in history as a book.”

He has also said that the book, which will be published by Juggernaut publication, will highlight the “inherent contradictions” of Indian society and also “reveal the hopes, despair, and struggles” of the Indian youth.

The JNU Student Union President is from a village called Bihat near Barauni in the district of Begusarai of Bihar. He enrolled in JNU post graduating from the Nalanda Open University, Patna. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in African studies at the School of International Studies.

The book is set to be ready around July-August 2016. Kanhaiya has said, “Everyday something or the other comes up. But I am working on it and probably it will be ready before the next semester.”
