Breaking All The Norms – Major General Smita Devrani From Uttarakhand
To serve Nation is what people of armed forces live for and after the commendable judgment of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2020, by ordering the Government to grant permanent commission and command positions to women officers. This enabled the women officers to attain an equal opportunity, just like their male counterparts opening ways for all women who only dreamt of being in the rank of Major General.
The Supreme Court gave wings to all the women to fly high and serve the Nation. Carrying forward the same legacy Uttarakhand’s tradition of sacrifice and immense serving duty with passion in the Armed Forces of the country, Smita Devrani has become the first woman in the Uttarakhand state to reach the position of Major General in the Indian Army.
Devrani was serving as a Brigadier in the Indian Army, and will now serve as a Major General.
Smita Devrani belongs to the Dundekh Village of Yamkeshwar Tehsil of the Pauri Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Seeing her dedication, hard work, and passion for serving the Nation, lead her to the post of Major General in the Indian Army.
Devrani’s sister is also a Brigadier in the Indian Army. Expressing happiness and pride on Smita Devrani’s success, the Chief Minister (CM) of the State Trivendra Singh Rawat has congratulated Devrani for being promoted in the rank of Major General.
In his message, CM said that her unique feat is a proud achievement for Uttarakhand State, and she has added to the honor of women of the State.
