Girl Script Patiala Hack4She

Hack4She is a hackathon aiming to gather people from all over the country to hold hands over a common cause. Girlup TIET and GirlScript Patiala have come together to bring to you this software-cum-hardware, completely virtual hackathon aimed to find solutions to women’s problems.

Hack4She will be held from November 18-22, 2020 and requires participants to typically form groups of 2-5 with a minimum of 50 per cent female or non-binary individuals and participate as a team.

It is a five-day event wherein you not only get to showcase your coding skills but also interact with other participants and enjoy the fun mini-events that we have in store for you. All the participants would also have the opportunity to learn from our highly experienced and successful guest speakers who have made their mark in their respective fields. The winners would be decided by highly qualified judges and will also have the chance to win exciting prizes.

We have partnered up with a few NGOs like Laadki, Teens of God and Sacchi Saheli who have graciously agreed to guide us every step of the way. To ensure our efforts to help girls and women are channelized in the right direction, we will be creating the problem statements for the hackathon according to the causes these NGOs are supporting so that they can be implemented for good.

Our platinum sponsor is GitLab, which is an open core company which develops software for the software development lifecycle. GitLab believes in a world where all creative work can be changed from read-only to read-write, and everyone can contribute.

Our Gold Sponsors are Devfolio, Linode, Coding Ninjas, BadBull and Voiceflow. Devfolio is at the forefront of the hacker movement helping organizers host awesome community hackathons while Linode accelerates innovation by making cloud computing simple, accessible, and affordable to all. Coding Ninjas is one of the largest online tech education companies in India, and BadBull is an Indian clothing brand for which quality is the ultimate focus. Voiceflow is helping the world have better conversations with technology by changing the way voice apps are built by creating a collaborative design platform for voice app development.

For us, Hack4She is also about learning and growing. Thus, we have invited extraordinary and accomplished personalities as our guest speakers who will share their knowledge and experiences and provide us with a fresh perspective during their enriching and informative sessions.

The speakers include entrepreneurs like Sneh Sharma (Founder and CEO, ittisa), Swati Bhargava (Co-founder at CashKaro & EarnKaro) and Aarnav Jindal (Founder of Codess.cafe). We also have tech enthusiasts like Shashank Mishra (Data Engineer at Amazon), Seema Saharan (OOS Contributor), Aakash Barnwal (Udacity Scholar), and MLH Fellows – Harsh Bardhan Mishra and Shubhank Saxena. We will also have a session on women empowerment and startup techniques by the international speaker, Salsa Beela (Co-MD at Girls in Tech Indonesia, Co-founder & CMO at Storial.co).

We have also gathered an impeccable group of judges who will be responsible for deciding the winner with the best solution of them all. The panel includes Anubha Maneshwar (Founder of the GirlScript foundation), Varsha Jaiswal (Organizer at GDG Jalandhar), Akanshi Srivastava (Product engineer at Gojek), Vivekanandhan M (Alibaba Cloud MVP – Artificial Intelligence), Tathagata Thapliyal (Software Engineer at Ixigo) and Rushabh Vasa (Co-founder of Agrahyah Technologies). They are excellent in the field of tech and are keen in helping all those young coders out there to work for a better cause.

While the participants give back to the society by coming up with creative solutions that influence the world for the better, the winners whose solutions stand out will win exciting and valuable prizes.

The winner of Hack4She will be awarded ₹14,000, Clerky company lifetime package and one-year free Interwebs.host subscription. The first and second runners-up will be rewarded with ₹10,000 and ₹6,000, respectively. The winner and the runners-up will also be given T-shirts and Devfolio stickers, $120 Sashido credits and internship opportunity, Linode $20 promo credits, 50 per cent off web hosting, Zulip cloud premium team channel, Echo AR premium tier services, Voiceflow premium account, Wolfram – one access and Jetbrains 1 year all products pack.

EchoAR is offering a $50 Amazon gift card, 1-month free Business Tier access and selected projects will be featured on the EchoAR “Inspiration” page.

Matic is offering Ethereum (Rs 10,000) or Ethereum + Matic (Rs 15,000), and eligibility to apply for internship/full-time roles and seed funding of up to 5,000 USD for winners.

Portis is awarding 300 USD (in crypto) for best app built on Portis and Tezos will give ₹20,000 for best app built on Tezos. Fold will provide internships and full-time opportunities for winners.

While a hackathon might seem like too taxing and stressful of an event, we have planned some mini-events as stress-busters to rejuvenate the participants and keep them inspired. First, we will have an ice-breaker session to welcome all the attendees. Then we have fun games like Pictionary on skribbl.io and complete the dialogue, and pop-culture and tech trivia quizzes.

We will also host a game night where a YouTube streamer will play Fortnite, Valorant, Among Us, GTA V and many more games with us. Besides that we would be hosting a treasure hunt as the last mini-event of this hackathon.

Gear up and get ready for 5 inspiring and electrifying days jam-packed with coding, innovation and fun-filled events. GirlUp TIET and GirlScript Patiala have dedicated this event to solving women’s issues, which is the need of the hour. FMC Weekend is the annual fest organized by the Film and Media Council for the promotion of digital arts. The Film and Media Council is one of the five student councils of the institute. It aims to encourage and promote digital arts among the students. It encompasses 6 clubs covering the domains of Photography, Cinematography, Animation, Media, Creative Design and Social Outreach.

It was a congregation worth remembering for the attendees. The theme for this year’s edition was chosen to be ‘Canvas of Dreams’. Moustache hotels were the title sponsor for this year’s edition, while the fest was powered by PicsArt, and co-powered by the Indian Film Project and Adcom.

For the last six years, participants have had the opportunity to exhibit their talents and win coveted prizes.
