Emma Watson feminist celebrity of year 2014

Emma Watson has been named feminist celebrity of 2014, by an online poll that was conducted by Ms. Foundation for Women in association with .

After an amazing speech at the UN on men’s role in feminism, it’s a VERY well-deserved win for Miss Watson, who proudly calls herself a feminist and has actively promoted equality throughout the year.

And, while feminism is definitely NOT about some women being better feminists than others (we’re all working for the same goal), it’s true that Emma’s impact has been truly massive in 2014. Her #HeForShe hashtag went viral, and got the whole world talking about feminism in the process, so it makes TOTAL sense that she scored the maximum votes.

Other bad-ass ladies on the list included Mindy Kaling and, of course, Beyoncé, who stood on stage in front of the word ‘feminist’, written in lights, this year. Here is the full list of the women who topped the poll:

01.   Emma Watson
02.   Laverne Cox
03.   Rachel Maddow
04.   Beyoncé
05.   Cher
06.   Amy Poehler
07.   Tina Fey
08.   Meryl Streep
09.   Mindy Kaling
10.   Ann Curry

“Celebrities who embrace feminism or speak out for women’s equality are helping to spread the word and build support for women’s rights,” said the CEO of MS. Foundation. “With this survey, we’re expanding the conversation about women’s empowerment to even more people.”
