Post the last-16 fixtures, the draw for the quarter-finals were made. Among the teams which progressed are current Champions League holders Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Sevilla, Liverpool, AS Roma, Manchester City, Juventus.
Real Madrid drew Juventus, whom they defeated in the finals of last season. It is to be noted that in the past, whenever Real Madrid went up against Juventus in a match which would be played over 2 legs, they have progressed every single time. Juventus defeated Tottenham Hotspurs to advance and Madrid defeated Paris Saint Germain.
Italians AS Roma drew FC Barcelona who currently sit up top comfortably in their native league. Barcelona defeated Chelsea and Roma defeated Russian side Shakhtar Donetsk to move into the quarterfinals. The last time Barcelona faced Roma in the Champions League was in the 15-16 season where they won 7-2 on aggregate.
Bayern Munich comfortably defeated Turkish side Besiktas to get into the quarterfinals where they will face Spanish side Sevilla. Sevilla, fresh off of a victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Liverpool drew fellow English team Manchester City. Interestingly, Manchester City, who are running away with the Premier League back in England, have only been defeated once this season in the Premier League, when they fell prey to Liverpool at Anfield. This is an interesting tie as one team looks to establish itself among the European Elites and the other looks to regain the lost establishment.
With 3 of the 8 teams already in a comfortable position to win the league title in their own country, these ties are sure to garner upsets and cheers. The 1st leg would be played on 4th April and the 2nd leg to be played on 10th April.
