I got a chance to speak with fashion designer Unatti Gandhi at a Coffee Shop In Mumbai recently. This girl overflows with positive energy. Unatti shared her fascinating story, from her life-changing stint in Mumbai to her brave career switch, her design inspirations to her responsible manufacturing practices. We know you’re just as thrilled as I was to get the inside scoop!
From an early age, Unatti felt a force like gravity pulling her towards the world of fashion. The young girl right after her 12th did her diploma in Fashion Designing. After that she did BBA and then MBA in Marketing. Unlike many other Entrepreneur Unatti loved her previous job profiles. First she interned as a strategic planner with Leo Burnett and later worked in Eo2 concepts an event company where she got a chance to client service brands like Accesorize and Lavie.
So last year this life changing event took place. This what she told us with full excitement “ It so happened that I received Lakme Fashion Week Invite and in that event my friend Drishti Tanwar agreed to wear an outfit designed by me. And what next was something I didn’t imagine! Everyone loved that outfit so much, people kept asking her where did she get it from and I was introduced to so many people as her designer with appreciations from everyone out there! So it was more like a soft launch for my label that day, it was my best desing and infact zoom tv interviewed about the designer of that outfit”, That night was one happy sleepless night for Unatti and next day itself she decided to speak to her parents abut starting her own label. “ I was extremely nervous of the response I would get but I was thrilled when my mother herself told me why don’t you start your own label!” She added with joy.
Committed to bringing her dreams to life, Unatti’s label Pristine was launched on 16th May 2015, which is also her birthday. Quite an eventful launch with a fashion show and her designs on display. Then there has been no stopping she got a chance to show case her designs at JW Marriot’s Couture exhibition in August-September 2015. Where she received so many orders that she got over booked. Her designs received praise from Fashion Designer Rohit Verma and the actresses from the movie calendar girls ordered a set for one of their launch events! Isn’t that amazing!!
Unatti is a very family oriented girl. “ I wanted to be different. My parents have always taught to me stay humble and down to earth. My mother guides me on daily basis in this work and my father has shown immense support in every way! It’s time I return things to them now, make them proud. In fact I gifted a car to my dad just recently and the happiness on his face was something that cannot be described in words”. This young lady entrepreneur has message for all the young entrepreneurs out there “Do not overthink and just do what you have to do. Take an action! We have sleepless nights and we are stuck but hang in there, you come out next minute! Keep stepping forward”
