“Touch The Sky With Glory” – Indian Air Force

The Balakot Air Strike was during the month of February this year, Abhinandan Vardhaman, The Squadron Leader, the missiles deal and crashing down the terrorism by striking enemy’s aircraft and many more uncountable spectacular performances of our great pride known as Indian Air Force (IAF). We can’t imagine the kind of sacrifice, patriotism and dedication these forces people are filled with. When we all are fighting for the biased community, religion-based issues, they are serving not a particular state or city. However, they are doing it for a nation called INDIA.

History Behind Air Force Day

The IAF was established on October 8th 1932 in British India colonialism as an auxiliary air force of the Royal Air Force. The enactment of the Indian Air Force Act 1932 stipulated out their adjunct status and enforced the adoption of the Royal Air Force uniforms, badges, brevets and insignia on them. On April 1st 1933, the IAF commissioned its first squadron, No.1 Squadron, with four Westland Wapiti biplanes and a group of five Indian pilots. When India became a republic nation in 1950, the prefix ‘Royal’ was removed from the Indian Air Force. At the same time, the current IAF roundel was also adopted.

Motto Of Indian Air Force

The Motto of Indian Air Force has been taken from the eleventh chapter of the Gita means ‘Touch The Sky With Glory‘. This mantra was given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra during the War of Mahabharata. In the mythology, Scene Lord is showing His Supreme Divine form to Arjuna. He showed the perfect way of the Lord is reaching the sky with glory, evoking fear and loss of self-control in the mind of Arjuna and giving him the power to fight. The Indian Air Force, similarly, aims with the motto to overwhelm the adversaries with the application of aerospace power in defence of the nation.
