Kargil Day 2021: 22 Years Of Kargil

In honour of the Kargil War’s Heroes on Vijay Diwas is celebrated throughout the nation. On 26 July 1999, the Indian army took charge of the high outposts which were captured by the Pakistani troops and Mujahideen.  After 60 days of warfare the Indian Army emerged victorious. They evicted the Pakistani troops from the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC). Since then, every year India honours the pride and courage of the Indian soldiers who were an integral part of ‘Operation Vijay’.

Today, 26 July 2021 the nation is observing the 22nd anniversary of India’s definitive victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. Throughout the nation, the Vijay Diwas is celebrated in various ways.

The celebrations started yesterday. Vijay Diwas celebrations started by paying tributes at Kargil Memorial in Dras. Even in the small town named Lamochen the Kargil Day was celebrated by narrating the stories of Operation Vijay. Along with the narration of Operation Vijay, many other prominent battle stories were narrated. Even a musical event was conducted in Dras on the occasion of Kargil Day. On Monday, Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat; Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur; and Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal paid floral tribute at Kargil War Memorial in Dras.

Today, On the Kargil Diwas, the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind laid a wreath at the Dagger War Memorial, Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, to pay tributes to all soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defending the nation.

The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu paid tribute to the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. He said, ‘On Kargil Vijay Diwas, I join the nation in remembering our armed forces. saga of valour and gallantry. I salute the heroes of the Kargil War & Operation Vijay and pay my respectful homage to the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice.’

 

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi paid tribute to the Indian armed forces and praised their valour & sacrifices.  On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the PM tweeted, “We remember their sacrifices. We remember their valour. Today, On Kargil Vijay Diwas we pay homage to all those who lost their lives in Kargil protecting our nation. Their bravery motivates us every single day.” He also shared an excerpt from last year’s Mann Ki Baat.

Along with the President and Prime Minister of India, various famous personalities from different fields have tweeted about the Kargil Vijay Diwas. Today, on this auspicious day, India is celebrating the victory of brave soldiers.

To the brave soldiers and their inspiring contribution to the nation, we pay homage to each one of them.
