Coronavirus: Prevention Is Better Than Cure

India as on March 4, 2020, reported 23 new cases of coronavirus, including 15 Italian tourists and a man in Gurgaon. Even after the government decided to screen all the passengers entering the country, the deadly virus seems slowly spreading.

With a new case of infected reported in Ghaziabad, the total number of cases in India has jumped to 30. Government is trying all possible ways to deal with the impact of the Covid-19.

As we know how fast the virus spread in China, we can do our best to prevent/reduce/minimise the spread of the virus in our country. Here are a few things to follow:

Do’s

  • Observe good personal hygiene.
  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap, especially if you have been in a public place. Specialists suggest that one should spend at least 20 seconds —— to clean the back of one’s hands, the space between one’s fingers and underneath the fingernails.
  • Follow bais respiratory etiquette–cover your mouth while sneezing and coughing. Use disposable tissue
  • papers for the same and discard them in closed bins immediately after use.
    Clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rubs or soap and running water (When your hands are visibly dirty.)
  • Frequently disinfect touched objects.
    Wear a specialised face mask — the N95 respirators are fitted to a person’s face to keep out any viral particles.
  • Consume fluid health diets
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Seek medical care/advice if you get sick or cold. Symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory diseases — such as fever, cough and shortness of breath.
  • Stay informed and strictly follow the advice given by your healthcare provider.

Dont’s

  • Avoid all the social gathering as far as possible
  • Avoid sharing utensils, water bottles, and personal hygiene items like towels.
  • Cancel all your non-essential travel plans
  • Refrain from spreading unscientific misinformation about possible ways to prevent or treat coronavirus.
  • Don’t spit in public places
  • Stay away from people who are suffering from fever, cold or any such respiratory ailments.
  • Avoid visiting a farm, live animal markets, or where animals are slaughtered.
  • Do not stockpile disposable face masks. Such masks need to be worn only by those who are suspected of having an infection.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose with unwashed hands.

Some Protective measures to be taken while using a mask

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a mask and make sure there are no gaps
  • Before putting on a mask, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rubs or soap and running water.
  • As soon as the mask is damp, replace it with a new one and discard the old one immediately in a closed bin.
  • Don’t reuse single-use masks
  • Remove the mask from behind and avoid touching the front of the mask.

It is all the more important to be aware of the Do’s, don’t — the preventive and protective measure to keep one safe from coronavirus.
