FIFA World Cup Halfway Done

2018 is significantly an exciting year for the football fans, as it holds the Fifa World Cup in it. World Cup is now halfway done, there is plenty of excitement ahead. Not least for England who qualified for the knockout stages in emphatic fashion, thrashing Panama 6-1 on Sunday. Poland, however, is out having been defeated by Colombia.

Fifa World cup, also known as World Cup is the quadrennial tournament, which declares the world champion in Football. The first competition for the cup was organized in 1930 by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and was won by Uruguay. Which took place every four years since then except at the time of World War II. Unlike Olympic football, World Cup teams are not limited to players of a certain age or amateur status, so the competition serves more nearly as a contest between the world’s best players. Referees are selected from lists that are submitted by all the national associations.

This year’s World Cup is being hosted by Russia from 14 Jun – 15 Jul 2018 there will be 32 competing teams all vying for the golden trophy at the end of the tournament. Russia was given the rights to host the FIFA World Cup for the very first time in its history and its’ Russia’s 11th appearance in the same series. The theme of the World Cup Russia 2018 is a dream and cosmic outer space exploration. The logo has been designed to look like the World Cup football trophy and is embedded with folk motives like matryoshkas and Firebirds. This year for the very first time since 1958, Italy will not be part of the FIFA World Cup but it’ll witness debuts of two new teams: Iceland and Panama. The max number of goals (as of today) are in the account of Harry Kane of England (5 Goals), following him is shared by Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal and Romelu Lukaku of Belgium (4 Goals).

Quarter Finals would take place on 6-7th July, and the most awaited finals will be witnessed on 15th July after the semifinals. Let’s hold our excitement, grab some popcorn and enjoy this season of Football and sportsmanship spirits!
