‘Chhapaak’ – Ab Ladna Hai
Daily we hear news on woman harassment, abuse, rape and murder and whatnot. The Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone made her comeback after her marriage break with the trailer of her upcoming movie ‘Chhapaak’. The trailer was launched on 10th December 2019, and the film will be released exactly after one month on 10th January 2019.
The movie is all about the acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal who instead of being victimised, led her journey to victory. The trailer shows the journey of Malti (name of Deepika’s character in the film), how she started hating her face after the acid attack and later on loving it. It also showed how the strong Malti comes out after surviving the acid attack and leads a campaign to stop acid attacks in the country by regulating the sale of acid and fighting her case in the court– being a strength of pillar for herself and thousands of other girls.
Glimpses of Amol (Vikrant Massey) and Malti’s everlasting love is also seen in the trailer. Deepika shared the trailer on her social media accounts saying, “Rarely do you come across a story where you do not need an entire narration to decide if you want to be a part of a film or not. What is even more rare is to not be able to articulate and put into words what you feel for the film, and it’s journey… Chhapaak is all of that and more for me… Presenting the trailer of #Chhapaak #AbLadnaHai.
In the trailer, Deepika can be seen exhorts people to fight against the sale of acid and the journey of hers in this battle hashtagged it as ‘#AbLadnaHai’.
The real-life Maliti Laxmi Agarwal was attacked in 2005, when she was just 15 years old. The attacker was a 32-year-old man who was trying to take advantages of her and when she denied she faced acid attack. After surviving the attack, she didn’t break down; instead, she gathered up herself all the courage and started a campaign called Stop Sale Acid to regulate the sale of acid in the country.
‘Chhapaak’ is directed by the Raazi director Meghna Gulzar. Deepika Padukone who is also the producer for the movie explained her intention for the production; she said, “I became a producer because I want to reach more people and create an impact through my films. Cinema is such a powerful tool. You want to use that sensibly. You want to use that wisely. I may not be able to do that every single time, but at least that is the intention.”
The story revolves around victims who are surviving and fighting for their livelihood– a normal life which we all deserve; however, just because born a woman, we are not getting that life. The woman has to face all kind of abuses, and when she stands against it, would become a victim of an acid attack, murder, burning and much more. Time has come to learn, to grow up and to teach something out of all these examples. Time has come for girls and women to say and apply #AbLadnaHai in their real-life to fight against all the odds.
