8 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Facing Depression

While we all feel sad, moody or low from time to time, some people experience these feelings intensely, for long periods of time (weeks, months or even years) and sometimes without any apparent reason. Depression is more than just a low mood – it’s a serious condition that affects your physical and mental health. It is a crippling disorder. It gnaws at the heart of the individual and eats away the happiness inside. Being famous doesn’t mean you are exempt from it. In fact, more celebrities have battled depression than we would have believed.

#1 – Demi Lovato

 

International singer and Disney actress Demi Lovato made headlines in 2010 by checking into a treatment facility for “emotional and physical issues” after being involved in an argument with a dancer on the Jonas Brothers World Tour. After leaving the centre and getting her life back under control, Lovato revealed that she suffered from anorexia, bulimia, and bipolar disorder.

#2 – Lady Gaga

With her genre-busting voice and her taste for fashion sense, Lady Gaga seems the very definition of courage and power. But to achieve that image Gaga had to struggle with depression and anxiety her whole life. After experiencing the horrors of such obscene suicidal thoughts she decided to open a foundation called Born This Way Foundation which helps youngsters especially to fight bullying, depression and after effects of substance abuse.

#3 – J.K Rowling

Before she became world’s best seller author, she was a penniless single mother who wrote her first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, while her infant daughter slept beside her in cafes. But as Rowling was writing that first book, she was dealing with poverty. Depression left her life haywire. In her Harry Potter series, she used Dementors, the dark soul-sucking monsters to express the intensity of depression.

Missed his peppy songs and ‘Upar Upar in the air’ for a while? Honey Singh opened up a few weeks back to share his account of suffering from bipolar disorder. At that time, he was fighting extreme emotions to an extent that he had no control over it. He shared with his fans his way of building courage which helped him face anything that came his way or on the way of his loved ones.

#5 – Shah Rukh Khan

King Khans was one among many celebrities in Bollywood fallen prey to depression. After having torn his muscles while shooting, he suffered loads of pain which eventually led to depression. But it could never keep him from doing what he loves the best – entertaining his fans. This gave him the strength to cope with the mental darkness.

#6 – Cara Delevingne

She is one of the most successful models in the world but Cara Delevingne used her power for good when she posted on Twitter about her battle with depression.
She Tweeted: “I suffer from depression and was a model during a particularly rough patch of self-hatred. I am so lucky for the work I get to do but I used to work to try and escape and just ended up completely exhausting myself. I am focusing on filming and trying to learn not to pick apart my every flaw. I am really good at that.”

#7 – Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone might be a successful star who has achieved both national and international recognition. But hard as it is to accept, this smiling, the successful actor suffered from depression in the past. However, instead of hiding the fact or sweeping it under the carpet, Deepika fought with the ailment and has now started a foundation to help others who are suffering from depression.

#8 – Varun Dhawan

Not many of us know but actor Varun Dhawan revealed that he was battling depression while shooting the movie, Badlapur.
