Did you know Five states of India share the celebration of their formation day today? Namely–Kerala, Karnataka, Madya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Haryana. Let us learn more about their history of formation and how each state celebrates it.
Kerala is officially a senior state (63 years)
God’s Own Country was formed long after the Independence of India. Kerala Piravi marks the birth of the state of Kerala, which falls on 1 November. The state was created in the year 1956.
Before 1956, Kerala was divided into three distinct areas Malabar, Cochin and Travancore. After the Independence, it remained so for a few years, until in 1949 Travancore and Kochi joined to form the unified Travancore-Cochin state. Until the vital moment known as Aikya Kerala (meaning united Kerala), for the formation of the State of Kerala. It gave an impetus reorganisation of the state on a linguistic basis.
Karnataka turns 63
Karnataka Formation Day is celebrated on 1 November of every year. On this day 1956, all the Kannada language-speaking regions of Southern India were united to create the state of Karnataka. Karnataka Rajyotsava day is observed as a government holiday in the state of Karnataka. Kannadigas across the world celebrate this day.
It is marked by the announcement and presentation of the honours list for Rajyotsava Awards by the Government of Karnataka. Festivals also include hoisting of the official Karnataka flag by the Chief Minister followed by him addressing the people. The Governor of the state also addresses the gathering, which is then followed by various community festivals, orchestra, Kannada book releases and concerts.
Madhya Pradesh Sthapna Diwas
“Hindustan ka dil dekho” is the advertisement tagline of Madhya Pradesh (MP) Tourism, inviting tourists to India’s eponymous centrally-located state. Many might not be knowing that MP is actually the heart of India–— the cradle of civilisation.
Bhopal was initially a state of India, which existed from 1949 to 1956. The state evolved out of the princely state of Bhopal and was joined with neighbouring states to form Madhya Pradesh in 1956. Shankar Dayal Sharma of the Indian National Congress served as chief minister of Bhopal state from 1952 to 1956.
Chhattisgarh is in the last year of teenage (19)
This state was formed on 1 November 2000 by partitioning ten Chhattisgarhi and six Gondi speaking southeastern districts of Madhya Pradesh. The capital city is Raipur. It is the 9th largest state in India. It is well known for its resources and is the primary source of electricity and steel for the entire country.
Chhattisgarh shares borders with several states like– Madhya Pradesh in the northwest, Maharashtra in the southwest, Telangana in the south (Bhupalpally district), Odisha in the southeast, Jharkhand in the northeast and Uttar Pradesh in the north. Currently, the state comprises 27 districts with more than 25.5 million population (2011).
Haryana moving strong at 53
Haryana is a state, situated in Northern part of India, was carved out of the former state of East Punjab on 1 November 1966 on a linguistic basis. It stands 21st in terms of its area, which is spread about 44,212 km2 (17,070 sq mi). New Delhi surrounds it from three sides.
The state shares city Chandigarh as the is its capital with Punjab. The National Capital Region city of Faridabad is the most populous city in the state. The city of Gurugram is the financial hub of NCR with significant Fortune 500 companies located in the vicinity.
With each of these states having uniqueness, it stands out from one another even though they share the same formation day and that makes India stand out among all other countries. Each state of India has its own story, which is less known by people.
