7 Times When Lord Krishna Made Appearances In Indian Movies
Ever wondered? Apart from Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal’s OMG – OH MY GOD! (2012) Where Akshay played the character of Lord Krishna, which was extraordinarily phenomenal and a movie to remember till this date.
A surprising fact is that N.T Rama Rao the legendary Telugu actor who played the role of Lord Krishna not once, twice but 17 times both on & off the screen and no one has ever come close to make the character look and feel so alive with his presence.

Shree Krishna Leela (1971):
The movie is directed by Homi Wadia, produced by Basant Pictures, Sachin Pilgaonkar the famous and classic actor performed the role of Lord Krishna. The playback singing was given by Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Dolly Davjekar, Sunil and Usha Timothy.

Mayabazar (1957) – Language: Tamil/Telugu/ Kannada
Mayabazar, based on famous folk tale Sasirekha Parinayam, the story of this movie includes Krishna’s attempt to unite Abhimanyu (son of Arjuna) with his love Balarama’s daughter. KV Reddy directed Mayabazar, it’s Telugu version was released on March 27, 1957; the Tamil version was released two weeks later, on April 12. Both the releases were critically and commercially successful, with 100 days run in 24 theatres which became a silver jubilee movie. On May 2013 CNN-News18 poll selected Mayabaza]ar as the greatest Indian film of all time.
Sri Krishnarjuna Yudham (1963) – Language: Telugu/Kannada/Tamil
In this movie, Krishna and Arjuna get into a fight when the latter decides to help save Gaya, from Krishna’s wrath. Lord Shiva decides to intervene to prevent a catastrophe.
Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddhamu is a 1963 Telugu Mythological film, produced and directed by KV Reddy. It casts NT Rama Rao, B.Saroja Devi, Akkineni Nageswara in the lead roles.
Shri Krishna Tulabharam (1966) – Language: Telugu
This film was a super hit at the box office. The storyline of the movie –Lord Krishna decides to teach his wife (Satyabhama) a lesson after she turns out to be arrogant, which starts causing problems with his other wives. Movie was directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao, which starts NT Rama Rao, Anjali Devi and Jamuna in the lead roles.
Shri Krishna Vijayam (1970)- Language: Telugu
The movie portrays the story of Krishna tricking Kalayavana into getting himself killed, where Mahodara swears to seek revenge on his brother’s behalf. Things take a turn when Lord Shiva grants a boon to Mahodara. Directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao, NT Rama Rao and Jayalalithaa were in the lead roles. This film didn’t do well at the box office. Later on, it was dubbed into Hindi as Hare Krishna in 1974.
- Daana Veera Soora Karna (1977) – Language: Telugu
This movie is based on the trio of Karna, Krishna and Duryodhana from the title of Mahabharata, and the movie is so remarkable and memorable for the fact NTR played all the three characters.
OMG – OH MY GOD! (2012) – Language: Hindi
And yes, of course, the list can’t be completed without mentioning this movie where the duo of Akshay and Paresh as Lord Krishna and Kanji Lalji Mehta and Akshay’s Lord Krishna character in a modern avatar breaking the stereotypes of Lord Krishna role traditionally.
The movie portrayed the loopholes and scandal of people’s religious belief into the multi-million/billion rupees industry, beautifully.
