Inventions, Where Are You!?
“Necessity is the mother of all inventions.”
Our world, as you readers probably know, has progressed and evolved to such a great extent, in terms of economic, social, cultural, political and technological progress and integration. Technology has played a major role in the progress of many nations across the world.
Take a country such as India itself. We were a nation which was lagging way behind in terms of technology and economic development. But look at us today! We happen to be one of the fastest growing nations among many countries. The world has truly changed.
Technological progress and innovation in science and technology industry resulted in a number of inventions during the industrial revolution era. For example, the locomotive train, or the radio, or the television! But it has been observed that there has been a decline in the number of inventions during the last two decades. Why is this? We already have a number of innovative products and inventions which have influenced and have had a tremendous impact in our day-to-day life. Take the mobile phone as an example. It rose to prominence due to the technological bubble in Silicon Valley and it has become an integral part of our life. Nowadays, we cannot live without our mobile phones, even though it is true that mobile phones have made us closely connected to other people around the world, it has certain bad features too.
There have not been many inventions in the last two decades because we have so many things which already make our lives so easy. May it be mobile phones, Television, radio, or the internet, we have already got most of what we need. It could also be due to the fact that we are have become so addicted to the materialistic things in life that we are not able to think of new inventions and innovations. We have whatever is necessary for us to live our life peacefully. If we already have whatever is necessary for us to sustain life, do we really need more inventions? This is one question which should be asked. It is to be noted that even though there have been a number of necessary inventions in the last two decades, the number of such inventions has not been as great as those inventions which occurred during the Industrial revolution and the period after that.
It is necessary for us to enlarge the number of inventions in many areas. Take agriculture as an example. It happens to be one of the most promising fields, yet there have not been many inventions in that field. If funds and investments could be diverted towards sectors and towards areas which are of utter importance and priority, instead of spending money on unnecessary things, we could really make a difference in this world and bring back the age of inventions! A few entrepreneurs are trying to bring back the age of inventions back. Take Mark Zuckerberg as an example, who has been trying to bring the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to the spotlight. Or Elon Musk, who is seriously trying to change the world through his inventions and innovative ideas.
To conclude, inventions have gone down in the last two decades due to the fact that there is no necessity for inventions for our current generation, but this does not mean that we should not have inventions. The world faces a number of problems and it is our responsibility to bring about inventions and innovative ideas to bring a change in our world, for the progress of humanity.
