“I have a dream and I am chasing my dream!” – Shresth Kumar
Young and talented television and theatre actor Shresth Kumar is mostly recognised for his role as Shatrughan in the ongoing popular TV Series ‘ Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman’ . Shresth is not only ambitious but a really hard-working and skillful artist! He shares his emotive and exciting journey with us, here is what he has to say –
#1: Tell us something about your background. Also, when did you decide to get into this industry? What made you take that decision?
I belong to a political family based from Bihar, but my family shifted to Delhi in the 80’s. My grandfather Satish Prasad Singh is an ex. Chief minister and ex. MP of Bihar but before becoming a politician he was an actor, I saw the album of my grandfather’s pictures when I was 10 yrs old and that was the time that I decided that when I will grow up I will become an Actor. He is my inspiration and when I was in college I decided that I will complete my graduation and then will go to Mumbai to explore the world of Indian film industry.
#2: What is more important to you, getting fame in the audience or getting faith of the director? Which one of the two according to you is harder to achieve?
For me it’s getting the faith of the director because if the director will have faith in me then he or she will bring out the best from me and I will automatically achieve fame in the audience. And getting fame in the audience is much harder because nowadays the audience wants a good performance otherwise they will forget you and in order to perform well, you need to trust the director and vice versa.
#3: Is there any kind of cinema/show that you would never like to do or what do you think your dream role would be like?
No, it’s not like that, I would like to do all kinds of Cinema and Shows. And my dream role would be playing Mr Amitabh Bachchan character in ‘Satte Pe Satta’ and the best part of it is that it’s double role.
#4: You are currently working in popular TV Show ‘Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman’. How has been the experience?
The experience of working in ‘Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman’ is nice and different. Nice because the co- actors are extremely nice and different because I have never done a mythology serial, I have to wear heavy jewellery and heavy makeup which is not there in other serials, always be Clean shaven. All in all a different experience. The sets are grand the language we speak is pure Hind which we normally don’t speak.
#5: Which one has been your favourite work so far and also your favourite co -star?
My favourite work I have still not experienced. I have just started as a screen actor. Before that, I have worked as a theatre actor and as an assistant director. But I enjoy acting on screen it’s different from theatre acting and still have to learn a lot. And my favourite co-actors are my brothers from the serial Gagan Malik as ram, Pawan Jagoli as Bharat and Arun Mandola as Lakshman because we get along too well and they are very nice to me.
#6: What is the next project you are working on?
Actually, I got few projects but could not take on any of it because of Sankat Mochan. I am having difficulty managing two projects. I am in talks with some production company too for other projects. Right now I am trying to manage my time with Sankat Mochan.
#7: What inspiring message would you give to those who are struggling in this field currently?
I worked as a theatre actor as an assistant director, gave so many auditions, got finalised for shows and movies but at the end was rejected just before the shoot. The feeling I got that time was that I should quit it, but I did not lose hope, I woke up next morning went to auditions stayed in a long queue got rejected again and I went back again. I always stayed positive, worked on my negative points. Worked on my body and always stayed with positive thinking people.
I just want to say only one thing that always stay positive never listen to people who says you can’t do it. One day success will come to you and those people who said you can’t do it will run after you. Just don’t give up. when I came to Mumbai I stayed with my uncle and Aunt for two months and after that, I shifted in another place to live alone because I didn’t want to trouble my uncle. When I shifted I had my clothes and a mattress. I didn’t know how to survive. I learned cooking myself and a little bit from my mother whenever I went back home to Delhi. Now I have almost everything, I have a dream and I am chasing my dream. So to other people like me out there just stay positive and Chase your dream and one day you will succeed.
