The Uniqueness Of Lohri Festival

As the popular winter Punjabi folk festival Lohri is here, let’s get to know more about this festival. In many states, it has different names; for example, it is known as Bihu in Assam, Makar Sankranti in West Bengal, in the south it is known as Pongal and so on.

However, Lori is, as we all know, is the time of new beginnings. Its when the Sikhs start their new year also the harvest festival of the Sikhs and Hindus. The celebration of Lohri marks the start of new beginnings with lots of hopes, jolliness and cheerfulness. Isn’t it evident that beginnings are always so beautiful one cannot help but laugh and smile with delight?

People look forward to a prosperous life ahead of themselves, due to which Lohri is so important for the Sikhs and Hindus. Lohri is celebrated one day ahead of Makar Sankranti. Lohri can also be called as the thanksgiving of the Sikhs. This festival, whether Sikh or non-Sikh unites the people across the country and fills everyone with joy and desire, and that makes this festival unique.

For someone who wishes to see what it feels like to celebrate a festival like Lohri, they can visit the places in the northern belt of India like Amritsar, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Delhi. The festival is very warm, welcoming, and people from all walks of life celebrate this much-awaited festival.

Lohri is celebrated every 13th of the month of January. It is a festival where the Sikhs workship the fire. The celebration of Lohri becomes very pompous during the night as people gather around the bonfire and throw til, puffed rice and popcorns into the flames of the bonfire.

To conclude, for every person on this planet, new beginnings fill us with a lot of hope and joy. We get the hope of changing our lives; we hope that things will get better and change for the better. Lohri is one such festival which assures hat new beginnings are always beautiful.
