India marks the 74th year of Independence today. Let’s take a moment and say thank you to our soldiers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Airforce, plus remember their sacrifices to make a better future.
Let me list down some of the patriotic movies and individual performances that the Indian film industry has pulled off on the big screen that invoked the nationalistic feeling within us.
● Border (1997):
Like come on, are you even an Indian if you haven’t watched this movie, if not, I highly recommend you to watch this Independence day. JP Dutta directs it; this multi-starred film wherein the powerpack Sunny Deol appears in the main role, Suniel Shetty, Bobby Deol, Jackie Shroff, Puneet Issar, and Akshaye Khanna also played a vital role. National award-winning movie, which is truly welcome by the audience till this date.
● Chak De! India(2007):
One of the best real-life-inspired stories of Mr. Mir Ranjan Negi, former Indian Hockey goalkeeper. Chak De! India, which is directed by Shimit Amin, where Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of Indian Hockey Team Coach, Kabir Khan in the movie, who was portrayed by the media as a ‘Gadar’ or fraud to the nation after losing a final world cup match against Pakistan by fixing. However, later on, he becomes the coach of the Women’s Indian Hockey Team and wins the world cup by proving his patriotism, love, and loyalty towards the nation.
● Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019):
Based on true events, Uri is one of the movies which can trigger anyone’s rage, scream on top of lungs with full ‘Josh,’ and cry for our brave heroes who did whatnot for our country and sacrificed their lives. It’s a story where Major Vihaan Singh Shergill of the Indian Army leads an operation against a group of militants who attacked a base in Uri, Kashmir, in 2016 and killed many soldiers. Vicky Kaushal played the lead role in this movie, putting a phenomenal performance with his acting; Aditya Dhar directed this movie.
● Rang De Basanti (2006):
This movie was and still is a wake-up call for all the youths out there to generate compassion for the leaders who had given up their lives for the Independence of the country. However, the way the lesson was taught in the movie was entirely out of the box. The movie won many awards, including National Awards. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed Rang De Basanti, and the Maestro A.R Rahman did his magic with his music direction. This multi-starred movie consisted of Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan, R Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, and many more.
● The Legend Of Bhagat Singh (2002):
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the movie had a descriptive narration of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh played by Ajay Devgn. The movie shows the journey of Bhagat Singh from childhood and how he grows up to become the most fearless freedom fighter in the country.
● Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran(2018):
The movie showcase a real-life based story, wherein nuclear weapons were developed and test by keeping the operations lowkey so that American intelligence agencies do not learn about it. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, John Abraham played the leading role of IAS officer Ashwat Raina, who conducted and led the operation.
● Airlift (2016):
Again, based on a true story and inspired by real events, Airlift is the story of Ranjit Katiyal played by( Akshay Kumar), an Indian businessman who lives with his family in Kuwait. However, due to Kuwait’s uncertainties when Iraq invades the country, he decides to risk his life to save and airlift his Indian countrymen from Kuwait to India during the time of war. Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the movie was a super hit at the box office.
● Lakshay (2004):
After giving us a movie like Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan Akhtar directed a film like Lakshay, starring Hrithik Roshan in the main lead which is a story of an aimless young man Karan, who joins Indian army but backs out by experiencing how difficult a soldier’s life can be. Due to this, a conflict arises with his girlfriend (Preity Zinta); later on, he re-joins the Indian army and finds the meaning of his life by climbing a hill at 26000ft after defeating Pakistan insurgents.
