Income Tax Return filing can be a very tiring process. This is especially so when you do not have the time to compute the necessary figures and input the same into the Returns notified by the Income Tax Department. If this is the situation of an ordinary person like you and me, then it is even worse for a policeman and a health worker, as they toil day and night to keep everyone healthy and safe, considering the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 virus.
While the nation’s warriors struggle to find time for their family and personal activities, an Audit and Tax Consultancy firm named ‘ZR Associates‘ based in Kerala, decided to lend their helping hand by agreeing to file the Income Tax Returns for these unsung heroes at no cost.
Mohammed Zameel, a CA Aspirant pursuing CA Final, a part of this initiative in conversation with NAC’s Feba Martha Abraham, talks about the effort of this firm.
What motivated you to take up such an initiative?
Considering the lockdown in Kerala, the policemen and the health workers are the ones who were and continue to work actively throughout the day, spending almost 12 -13 hours per shift. Our initiative to file their Income Tax Returns free of cost is our way of showing appreciation for their service to society during this crisis.
How do you plan to execute this initiative?
Our first step was to bring about awareness through social media platforms with our existing clients, students, friends, and family. After the initiative’s announcement, around a hundred inquiries have come in the first week itself. We have received data and documents via mail, based on which work is started against the details provided by the Clients.
On conveying the same to the policemen and the medical workers, what was their reaction?
They were pleased, and it was a huge ‘thumbs up!’ from them. They had termed it as a ‘Humble initiative’ from our office, as we treated them as our priority.
Do you plan to come up with more of such initiatives?
We have taken up another initiative to our existing clients having turnover less than Rs. 1 crore. For them, we have agreed to file their Goods and Services Tax (GST) Returns for April 2020, free of cost. There are no such other plans as of the moment.
Do you have any word of advice to those professionals who might consider coming up with such initiatives to benefit the nation’s warriors?
My advice will be that your role as a professional, in any field, should benefit the society.
As Ronald Reagen, the fortieth President of the United States of America, has rightfully said, “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” A small act of kindness can go a long way, whether you are a professional or the least among the working class of people.
