BJP Leadership Crisis In Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned on March 9, 2021, nine days before completing four years in his office as the head of a Bhartiya Janta Party government. He said that the party had taken a collective decision that someone else should rule now.

On Tuesday morning, after meeting senior BJP leaders Chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr Rawat returned to Dehradun and handed over his resignation letter to Governor Baby Rani Maurya at 4:15 pm. Reports indicate that there was growing disquiet amongst the BJP senior member over Rawat’s style of functioning.

Reason Of Resignation

On asking about the reason for his resignation in the press conference held, Rawat said: “A collective decision is made and if you need a proper answer you will have to go to Delhi.”

Trivendra’s Story

“I have been in the field of politics for a long time now, may it be as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker or in BJP. The party allowed me to serve devbhoomi or Uttarakhand. It was a chance of a lifetime,” said Rawat. He expressed his gratitude to the BJP Party for the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister of Uttarkhand for four years.

“I come from a simple background; I never presumed that the BJP Party will give me the honour of serving Uttarakhand for pretty much four years as Chief Minister,” Rawat added.

“The Party has collectively decided that I should turn over the baton to someone else now. Nine days are left for the completion of four years,” he said.

Frontrunners for CM’s Post

The Governor had asked Rawat to continue on the post until another leader was appointed. The strong candidates seen for the post were Dhan Singh Rawat, Ajay Bhatt, Anil Baluni and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
