“The Prime Minister of the RSS lies to Mother India”- Rahul Gandhi

On Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi knocked out the claim of Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding no detention centers in India and the suggestion that a nationwide rollout of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is not happening.

In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “The Prime Minister of the RSS lies to Mother India,” along with an edited clip of PM Modi’s speech at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday and a media report on an alleged detention center in Assam. The Congress MP also added the hashtag #JhootJhootJhoot.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, and alleged nationwide NRC, had created massive unrest among the citizens within the nation during the past one month. The protests got tremendous support from people outside India as well. The opposition parties also took this as an opportunity to bash the NDA Government.

PM Modi, while addressing the people during the rally for the upcoming Delhi election, had accused the Congress and “urban Naxals” for spreading misinformation about NRC and CAA. “The Congress and its allies – some urban Naxals – are spreading rumors that all Muslims will be sent to detention centers. Neither is anybody sending the country’s Muslims to detention centers nor are there any detention centers in India. The Muslims of India don’t need to worry at all. The CAB and the NRC will not apply to the Muslims of the country.”

Adding to this, he confronted the audiences by claiming that since the NDA government came into power in 2014, there has been no discussion on NRC anywhere. In his 97 minute speech, he also said that as per Supreme Courts’ order, NRC was carried out in Assam. NRC and CAA were the key points in his speech, wherein he spoke to clarify things to people protesting against the same nationwide.

In an interview with the news agency ANI, Home Minister Amit Shah echoed PM Modi’s views stating that there has not been any discussion on implementing the pan-India citizens’ list.

There have been fierce protests in several parts of the country against the amended Citizenship Act, the first-ever law to make religion as a criterion for citizenship. The government announces that they will help non-Muslims from Muslim-dominated neighbouring nations like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to become Indian citizens if they escaped religious persecution in their country and came to India before 2015.

However, as per the activists, students, opposition parties, and other protesters say the law is discriminatory towards Muslims and is against the secular tenets of the constitution.

Now what the nation has to watch out is, all this protest and support of opposition parties is it just for vote bank or are they genuinely concerned for the country? As Delhi nears the assembly election, we will have to see if the BJP will add another state to their list of lost or will regain power?
