Pawalgarh in the imaginary textbooks

Quite close to the world-famous Jim Corbett National Park region is Pawalgarh Conservation Reserve which shares the same landscape and biodiversity with the national park but remains relatively untouched by the tourists rush. On the internet, if you search about Pawalgarh, it would lead you to a place named as ‘Bachelor of Pawalgarh’, which is nothing but a 10 feet long tiger, hunted down by Corbett in the year 1930 in this village, that is near the riverside of Dabka. Bachelor of Pawalgarh is still a hot topic in the memories of the local people through the stories they all have heard by their ancestors about ‘Carpet Sahab’ local name. If you visit Pawalgarh, then remember to visit the Forest Rest House situated right at the entrance of the village where a 108 years old Semal tree stands straight.

Pawalgarh Conservation Reserve was declared as a protected area in the year 2012. The villages that fall under this area are Pawalgarh, Mankanthpur, Kotabagh, Kyari, Bilparao, Gaibua and Chhoi majorly. The region has a splendid view of as two water sources– river Kosi on the west and river Dabka on the east side.

After the discussion among the local people this place was named as Pawalgarh Prakrati Prahari (PPP), it is a flagship brand having several homestays and community development programs as it’s part. Homestays, organic farms, waste management program and training of locals to become naturalists are some of the initiative done by Pawalgarh Prakrati Prahari volunteers. Eco Harryman’s Homestay is one of the first initiatives made by PPP.

Eco Harryman’s Homestay for all

Eco Harryman’s is run by the famous localite of the region–Mr Manohar Singh Manral who is a pioneer thinker and an environmentalist. His daily routine includes a walk to the garden every morning, where he has planted many trees in the loving memories of his friends, who lost their lives during the freedom movement. The word Harryman’s stands for the initials of the names of all the people who were the members of this collective odeum of the homestay.
