Sky Is The Limit For Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi

On one side India is mourning over the demise of some beautiful souls which have left this earth after being tortured to death– on the other hand is celebrating the new milestone which Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi has achieved, after becoming the first naval woman pilot for the Indian Navy.

Shivangi was commissioned into the Indian Navy last year after she completed her initial training. On December 2, 2019, 24-year-old Sub-Lieutenant joined the operational duties at the Kochi naval base on and will be flying the Dornier aircraft Do-228s for over-the sea surveillance.

Born in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, Shivangi finished her basic training in 2018 at the Indian Naval Academy and was taken to Kochi to train with the Indian naval air squadron.

Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi expressed her happiness and stated that she had been craving for this moment for a very long time and it has finally come true; she also added that she is looking forward to completing her 3rd stage of training.

As she has achieved her childhood, Shivanhi aims to inspire young girls to come forward and follow their ambition and make the nation proud. She further added that women were always there in the Navy, but not in the cockpit. She believes that this will create more opportunities for the women who want to join Defence and would have more women like her who want to go for choppers and fighters.

In August, Wing Commander S Dhami became the first female officer in the nation to become the Flight Commander of a flying unit of Indian Air Force.

Dhami took over as Flight Commander of a Chetak helicopter unit at Hindon airbase. Flight Commander is the second in command of the unit, meaning that she is the second in the unit after the commanding officer.

As more and more women choose to become part of Defence, India is somehow showing progress in uplifting women. At the same time, there are many more cries which have to be heard and responded to.
