Massive Garbage Fire of Mumbai was Visible From Space

Recent satellite pictures released by NASA shows that the garbage fire in Deonar Dumping ground in Mumbai area could be seen even from outer space.1According to reports, the fire started on 27th January 2016 and continued for four days. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Mumbai was at a “very poor” level of around 341.

In order to ensure the heath and safety factor, all the schools around the area were shut down. Over 70 schools declared a holiday for the period of 4 days.

Three satellites of NASA Aqua, Suomi NPP, and Terra, on 27th January, detected traces of smoke in their sensors. The Landsat 8 satellite took natural and false colour images on 28th January.
