Jackie Chan: The martial arts epitome finally grabs an Oscar after 56 years

On Saturday, Jackie Chan finally received the Oscar Honorary award after all these years of sheer grit, determination, fury and the fists. He was been honoured by Tom Hanks, Michelle Yeah, Chris Tucker and his Rush Hour co-star, Chris Tucker presented him with the award.

The Academy’s Honorary Award is given to celebrate the lifetime achievements, exceptional contributions to motion picture arts and sciences and outstanding service.

Mr.Chan, a 62 year old legend is one who has been awed and wowed all kind of audiences across the globe with his acrobatic fighting style, his flexible stunts as well as his comic timing. He started his career at a very young age. From appearing in small roles to coming onto the Bollywood platform and excelling in all fields with his exemplary performances by thus shining forth the light is no less than a rollercoaster ride. Had it not been for him, then we would all be less acquainted with the fact of watching an action packed comedy movie filled with gallantry ballistic moves.

He was so deeply overwhelmed by the joy of receiving the award that it very well reflected in his speech. He said it was a dream, Chan then recalled about his moments in the past whilst watching Oscars with his dad and mom, his dad once said Son, you get so many movie awards in the world, when will you get one of this” Then I just looked at my dad, “ha ha ha. Dad, I only make comedy action movies”, he joked.
Further he added on how coveted he was to earn the Oscar when he made a trip to Sylvester Stallone’s house which left the audience in splits, he said “It was 23 years ago that I saw this little thing in his house (referring to the statuette in his hand), I touched it, kissed it and smelled it and I still believe that my finger prints are seen on it and thought to myself that I really wanted one. Continuing with his acceptance speech, he said “After 56 years in film industry, making more than 200 films and breaking so many bones finally, this is mine” in an emotional tone.

Tom Hanks adding on a pun with respect to Chan’s receiving the honorary award said “Jackie is the man who puts the chan in chan-tastic” and further stated that “it was especially gratifying to acknowledge Jackie’s creativity.”
