Nation hasn’t come out of the grief of legendary versatile actors Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan, news of the demise of Legendary footballer Subimal (Chuni) Goswami came out. Nation shattered again as already handling a lot because of Pandemic COVID 19. India lost three legends in a series in a single week.
Footballer Goswami, who captained India to Asian Games gold in 1962, passed away on Apil 30, in Kolkata. The footballer was 82 years old, when he took his last breath in a city nursing home, where he was admitted as he felt uneasiness on Thursday morning.
He was one of the finest footballers who have ever played for India. Because of his dedication, hardwork, and success peak, he took India towards, Goswami’s name taken synonymously with celebrated club Mohun Bagan.
His talent was not only confined to football, but he represented Bengal in 46 first-class games between 1962 and 1973 in cricket also. He played a prime role in seeing India do well in prominent international events like the Asian Cup and Merdeka Cup. Thus Goswami was a legendary sportsman who did well in football as well as cricket.
In the period of his captaincy, Bengal reached the Ranji Trophy final in 1971-72 season before losing to Bombay.
His death was confirmed by family members, who said that the former footballer was admitted to a hospital and suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday evening. Family members wouldn’t able to take his body to Mohun Bagan Club owing to Covid-related restrictions.
