The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), a terrorist group having its roots in Bangladesh or X-East Pakistan is trying to spread its branches across India. A list of about 125 suspects has been shared with different states, proclaimed by NIA Chief.
What is JMB?
Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) is an Islamic terrorist organisation having its roots in Bangladesh. It is also listed as a terrorist group by the United Kingdom. It was founded in April 1998 in Palampur in Dhaka division of Bangladesh by Abdur Rahman. The organisation was officially declared a terrorist organisation and banned by the government of Bangladesh in February 2005.
Anti-terrorism Squad Metting
After getting the challenge, the anti-terrorist squad team held a meeting with Prime Minister Modi where he explained the situation and told the red states which are under the effect of JMB. States like Jharkhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala is in the guise of Bangladeshi immigrants and on the high zone of this JMB squad.
The NIA has shared with states concerned a list of 125 suspected activists who have close links with the JMB leadership,” PM Modi said.
Inspector General of the NIA Alok Mittal said from 2014 to 2018, the JMB has set up 20-22 hideouts in Bangalore and tried to spread its camps in South India.
Mittal said, “The JMB was keen to attack Buddhists temples to take revenge for the plight of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.” NIA chief also said that there was a plan to form India-based are of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen in 2017.
