Five names from Bollywood appear on the high-powered list, three of them in the top 10.Bollywood’s richest stars are even richer than some of Hollywood’s loftiest names, the Forbes list of highest paid actors for this year reveals.
At number seven are actors Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, both worth $33.5 million as per Forbes. Akshay Kumar is just behind them at number nine with $32.5 million.
Shah Rukh Khan holds the spot at number 18 with $26 million and Ranbir Kapoor, worth $15 million, at number 30.
Salman, Big B, and Akshay kept actors like Johnny Depp, Dwayne Johnson, and Leonardo DiCaprio out of the top 10 cut. SRK is ahead of stars like Ben Affleck, Hugh Jackman, Seth Rogan, Will Smith and even Brad Pitt.
Forbes noted work of Bollywood stalwart Amitabh Bachchan, who has starred in over 150 movies in his nearly 50-year-long career, continues to earn top rupee for his roles in flicks such 2014’s Bhoothnath Returns. Salman has appeared in some 80 movies since his 1989 breakout film Maine Pyar Kiya and Akshay has appeared in some 150 movies since his 1992 breakthrough in Khiladi.
Forbes describes SRK as “India’s Leonardo DiCaprio” – perhaps not the Hollywood star fans would compare him to – and listed his earnings from movies such as Happy New Year as well as lucrative endorsements.
“Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor is one of Bollywood’s top male actors and joins the World’s Highest-Paid Actors list for the first time. He banks a decent paycheck from movies such as Roy and Bombay Velvet,” Forbes said.
Meanwhile, right at the top of the list is Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr whose $80 million fortune puts him in pole position the third year in a row. Actor-filmmaker Jackie Chan is in the second spot with $50 million and at number three is Furious 7actor Vin Diesel and his $47 million.
The 34 stars on the Forbes’ list earned a combined $ 941 million before taxes and fees between June 2014 and June 2015. A separate list of highest-paid actresses will be published later this year.
